Dr. Gioconda Guerra Pérez is the Executive Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and serves as the chief executive officer of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. She also serves as the university’s designated Undocumented Student Liaison. Dr. Guerra was born and raised in Panama, and received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Louisville. She joined Illinois in 2013 as the Director of the La Casa Cultural Latina and has devoted her career to finding ways to remove social, cultural, and institutional barriers affecting underrepresented students so they can successfully complete their college education. She is an affiliated faculty to the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and currently teaches courses on migration and displacement, citizenship, and exclusionary immigration laws.
